The Quantification Module includes calculation of the Bone Scan Index (BSI) and the number of metastases. The BSI values reflect the extent of skeletal involvement by tumour in whole-body bone scans. A BSI value of 1.0 is found in a patient who has a tumour in 1.0% of the total skeleton (including arms and legs).
The automated quantification method is inspired by a method presented by the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York [Ref 1]. The BSI value can be used to predict survival in prostate cancer patients.
